GKIDS has acquired North American theatrical rights to Goya and Annecy Cristal-winning Spanish filmmaker Alberto Vazquez’s adult-animated horror-comedy “Unicorn Wars”.

Dubbed “Bambi meets Apocalypse Now,” the film is set in a universe where teddy bears have been locked in an ancestral war against unicorns.

Aggressive and confident teddy bear Bluet and his sensitive and withdrawn brother Tubby go through the rigors and humiliation of teddy bear bootcamp before engaging in the psychedelic horrors of a combat tour in the Magic Forest.

Their complicated history and increasingly strained relationship will soon determine the fate of the entire war. The film explores themes of religious zealotry and the legacy of military fascism.

The film is expected to make its U.S. premiere at the upcoming Fantastic Fest followed by an early 2023 domestic release.
