Former “Bridgerton” breakout star Rege-Jean Page and “Top Gun: Maverick” hunk Glen Powell are set to team in an untitled series re-imagining of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” at Amazon.
Like “For All Mankind” and “The Man in the High Castle,” this is expected to be an ‘alternate American history’ tale with familiar elements. In this case Page as Butch Cassidy and Powell as The Sundance Kid, roles made famous in the 1969 film by Paul Newman and Robert Redford respectively.
Ordered straight-to-series at Amazon, who beat out both Disney+ and Peacock for the project, the series will be executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO production company.
Cousins Kaz and Ryan Firpo (“Eternals”) will pen the scripts for the series, which is seen as a launchpad for a larger franchise with the potential for multiple series and spinoffs.
The Firpos, the Russos, Page and Powell will all executive produce along with Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot and Scott Nemes.
