“Lion King” Prequel Sets Title, Release Year

Disney

Disney has unveiled the official title for its “The Lion King” prequel which will be called “Mufasa: The Lion King” and will release in 2024.

The project will serve as a prequel to 2019’s live-action take on the classic 1994 animated feature. That Jon Favreau-directed live-action take, starring the likes of Donald Glover and Beyonce Knowles-Carter, scored very mixed reviews.

However it still earned over $1.66 billion at the box office which suggests there’s plenty of life left in the franchise.

This holds more poromise as it won’t be a remake, rather an original tale set in Mufasa’s younger and formative days with Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. cast as Mufasa and Scar. Jeff Nathanson penned the script whilst acclaimed helmer Barry Jenkins directs.
