Paramount+ Plans “Warrior” TV Series

Paramount Plans Warrior Tv Series
Lionsgate

The acclaimed Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte-led 2011 MMA drama feature “Warrior” is becoming a TV series for the Paramount+ service.

The film’s writer/director Gavin O’Connor, Lionsgate Television and Paramount are teaming up for what will be a ten-episode first season of a potential ongoing series.

O’Connor is reportedly in talks with retired two-time UFC champion Daniel Cormier and actress Gina Rodriguez to play two of the four main combatants, with the other two being sought now.

Adair Cole co-created the drama and both he and O’Connor will serve as showrunners. Cole will executive produce while O’Connor plans to direct with the treatment currently being written ahead of opening up a writers room.

The only real connection to the original film is O’Connor and MMA, otherwise this seems to be ditching the dysfunctional family involving a deadbeat dad and his two estranged sons dealing with their family grudges. That said, there will still be family drama, sports saga and social commentary.
