One of 2020’s biggest success stories was “Extraction,” the Chris Hemsworth-led action vehicle arriving in April 2020 which became one of the biggest streaming hits of the pandemic.
Hemsworth will reprise his role of Australian black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake for the follow-up which sees him somehow surviving the end of the first film and off on his next mission. Also back is Sam Hargrave as director and filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo as producers with Joe writing the script.
Out doing promotion for their own action-thriller “The Gray Man,” Joe Russo talked with Collider and teased the “Extraction” follow-up as being more than just a re-tread albeit with a cooler color filter and colder climate:
“It’s great. It’s very different from ‘Extraction 1’, which we like. It’s its own movie in that regard. It has a different color schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one.
And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story, is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time out. So we’re really excited about it, and we think it was beautifully shot. Hemsworth’s fantastic in it. And we’re excited to share it with audiences.”
The filming of the “Extraction” wrapped back in April and Netflix has yet to reveal the release date or a trailer for the sequel.
