In separate interviews, actresses Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow have confirmed a sequel to the 1997 comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” is in the early stages of development.

While there has been talk of a follow-up for years, Sorvino appeared on the “Today” show this week and teased:

“We’re getting closer. Something might be in the works. There’s nothing official to report, but I can unofficially hint that we’re closer than we’ve ever been to getting something to happen.”

Just hours later, Kudrow was interviewed on SiriusXM and confirmed original screenwriter Robin Schiff is “thinking about it and coming up with something. Isn’t that thrilling?”

The original 1997 film was a modest box office hit but has since become a major cult classic. Both actresses reunited at the SAG Awards in February to present an award dressed in outfits that matched the signature colors of their outfits from the film.
