Announced as part of the Annecy Festival currently underway in France, the first-ever Looney Tunes original animated movie musical is coming to HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe are teaming for the Broadway-set, family event film project titled “Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical”.
The somewhat meta-story begins when an exhausted Bugs Bunny, having starred in a long-running Looney Tunes Broadway smash production, decides to retire from the stage.
That opens the door for the attention-seeking Daffy Duck to bid to step into the lead role – until he is kidnapped by an obsessive fan with sinister plans for her favorite stage duck.
With his ticket to Broadway retirement in danger, Bugs sets off on a rescue mission to find Daffy and, with the help of his Looney Tunes co-stars, his joy of performing again.
The film will feature original dynamic song and dance numbers and new orchestrations from the Warner Bros. library of movie musicals.
The project boasts a screenplay and lyrics by Emmy Award-winning “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” head writer Ariel Dumas.
Pulitzer Prize, Tony and Grammy award-winner Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”) will oversee music and orchestration while veteran animator Brandon Jeffords (“Vivo,” “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”) serves as director and supervising producer.
