Legendary Australian musician Nick Cave and Swedish rock star Thåström are teaming for the animated series “Before They Were Gods”.
The story is set in an imaginary world in which the two musicians were close friends as 14-year-olds, before they would turn into rock gods. They search for the ultimate truth, everlasting beauty, and cheap wine.
Sometimes they find it, mostly they don’t, but always there is the promise of endless love in the form of the enigmatic Linnea whom they have both deeply fallen for.
Thåström is written as a curt, political, harsh existentialist whilst Cave speaks like a Dionysian agnostic and romantic dreamer who luxuriates in language. Though set in Sweden, all dialogue is in English.
The project hails from award-winning Swedish director/writer Måns Mårlind (“Midnight Sun”), animation company Brokendoll, and Banijay’s acclaimed Swedish production company Yellow Bird.
Cave is coming off the acclaimed documentary “This Much I Know to Be True” which delves into Cave’s friendship with collaborator Warren Ellis and was directed by Andrew Dominik.
