Italy’s Fandango and The Apartment, the production companies behind HBO’s “My Brilliant Friend” series, are set to back a high-end TV series adaptation of Italian playwright Stefano Massini’s “The Lehman Trilogy”.
Sam Mendes’ condensed English-language version of the original five-hour large ensemble stage production swept the Tony Awards this weekend, taking five honours including best play.
Set mostly in the United States, the story charts the history of one of the financial institutions that helped spark the 2008 recession and takes a hard look at the intrinsic failures of a certain form of capitalism. The plan for the TV version is to adapt the original work into an epic drama series which Massini himself will write.
Domenico Procacci and Lorenzo Mieli will produce the work, but a commissioning broadcaster or streamer has not yet been set.
