Microsoft Retooling Game Pass Tv Device

Microsoft will reportedly retool their planned device that lets players stream Xbox games to TVs. The project has reportedly been in development for a couple of years.

Windows Central (via VGC) reports that the device, codenamed Keystone, will be a small streaming-only piece of hardware that can connect to any monitor or TV like an Amazon Fire Stick or Roku puck.

Once done, it can use Game Pass’ cloud streaming functionality without the need for a console – offering a potentially significantly cheaper way to access Game Pass.

A Microsoft spokesperson now confirms that while Keystone exists, the development team isn’t happy with it and is now rethinking their plans:

“We have made the decision to pivot away from the current iteration of the Keystone device. We will take our learnings and refocus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to deliver Xbox Cloud Gaming to more players around the world in the future.”

The device is entirely separate from the also in the works Samsung TV App which will allow users to stream cloud games direct to their televisions without any additional device.
