“Ron’s Gone Wrong” studios Locksmith Animation and DNEG Animation are re-teaming for “That Christmas” based on a children’s book series Richard Curtis which explores what happens when Christmas traditions are upturned and chaos brings the family together. DreamWorks veteran Simon Otto directs from a script by Curtis and Peter Souter. [Source: Collider]
La Chimera
Neon has acquired North American rights to Italian auteur Alice Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera” starring Josh O’Connor, Isabella Rossellini, Carol Duarte, Alba Rohrwacher and Vincenzo Nemolato.
The film is set in the 1980s in the clandestine world of the tombaroli (tomb raiders) and tells the story of a young English archaeologist (O’Connor) caught up in the illegal trafficking of ancient finds. Filming is underway in Tarquinia, Tuscany, central Italy and Switzerland. [Source: THR]
Nicholas Sparks
“The Notebook” and “A Walk to Remember” author Nicholas Sparks has set a first-look production agreement with Universal Pictures to produce three feature films.
The films will be based on some of his most recent novels including “The Wish” which deals with first love. Zack Hayden will produce that. [Source: Collider]
Oscars
After allowing for a streaming qualification during the pandemic, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have now announced that films attempting to qualify for the Oscars must once again be released in theaters.
The six qualifying U.S. metropolitan areas for a one-week release continue to be Los Angeles County, New York City, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami, and Atlanta. The 2023 Academy Award nominations will be revealed on January 24th 2023 ahead of the ceremony on March 12th. [Source: The Playlist]
