A new report at Puck (via Game Informer) indicates that Electronic Arts “has been persistent in pursuing” a sale or merger.
The report indicates they recently held talks with Disney, Apple, Amazon and Comcast-NBCUniversal with the latter progressing the furthest before eventually falling apart in April due to disagreements over price and corporate structure.
The report claims Roberts approached Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson with a proposal to spin off NBCUniversal and merge the media and gaming giants.
EA says it will not comment “on rumors and speculation relating to M&A”. M&A activity in the games industry has been forecast to reach $150 billion this year due to the major deals like Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Sony’s acquisition of Bungie, and Take-Two’s buyout of Zynga.
