In the wake of eight axings of shows and a potential sale looming to owners that could thorougly change its identity, The CW’s Fall schedule next season is understandably thin on the ground.
Two prequel series (for “Supernatural” and “Walker”) and some international acquisitions (“Professionals,” “Family Law”) will fill out the slate along with an unscripted celebrity magic show.
In fact many of the network’s biggest series – including “Superman & Lois,” “The Flash,” “Riverdale” and “Nancy Drew” are being held off until mid-season premieres. Same goes for the planned new DC Comics drama “Gotham Knights”.
CEO Mark Pedowitz has also spoken about the surge of cancellations this season, saying:
“None of these were easy decisions, we had long conversations with our studios and parent companies and everyone recognized this was a time of transition for The CW.
Unfortunately, some difficult financial and strategic decisions needed to be made at every level and despite some rumors out there, content was never a factor in deciding not to move forward with the shows.”
He adds that the network has always fone its best to give long-running series a proper ending. Even so, the axings of “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Legacies” haven’t been received well by their loyal fanbases.
