Just under two weeks out from the fourth season premiere of Netflix’s supernatural smash “Stranger Things,” an official Monopoly game tie-in has reportedly spoiled major story points of the new season according to THR

Images have leaked online in recent weeks of game cards used in the promo tie-in and while Netflix wasn’t happy, the show’s creators Matt and Ross Duffer were said to have had a “total meltdown” about the mishap. Sources for the trade indicate the pair, who value story secrecy highly, weren’t consulted about the game.

A Reddit thread has popped up devoted to the leak saying the game was bought at “a nationally recognized retailer and purchased fair and square by a consumer. Nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample.”

The “Stranger Things” fourth season is being split into two parts, the first arriving May 27th with the second on July 1st. Boasting a whopping $30 million per episode budget, it has been confirmed (via Collider) that the new run also boasts super-sized episodes with the seventh and ninth episode to each be of feature film length. The Duffers penned and directed the first two and last three episodes of the new season (Eps 1-2, 7-9).

Netflix recently announced that the show’s fifth season will be its last and the pandemic-induced delays not only allowed the Duffers to have the fourth’s season’s scripts fully completed by the time production began, but were able to map out the final season and lay the early groundwork for it in the new one.
