J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company is set to produce a live-action “Hot Wheels” film adaptation for Mattel Films and Warner Bros. Pictures.

The 54-year-old brand of toy cars is owned by Mattel and is billed as the “world’s leading vehicle franchise” with over 8 billion vehicles sold.

The film is dubbed a high-throttle actioner that will team up some of the world’s hottest and sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles.

This marks the latest attempt to bring the beloved IP to cinemas following well two decades of attempts with directors ranging from McG to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo linked at points.

Things are finally moving on Mattel Films projects though, with Warners and Mattel’s “Barbie” movie from filmmaker Greta Gerwig set to release next year.
