Brolin Talks “Batman” Rejection, “Dune” Return

Brolin Talks Batman Rejection Dune Return

Years ago, actor Josh Brolin was one of the candidates in the mix to play Bruce Wayne/Batman for Zack Snyder in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” – a role that ultimately went to Ben Affleck.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast recently to promote Amazon’s “Outer Range” series, Brolin says Snyder eventually passed on him. Despite that, he holds no ill will towards those involved and says he’d love to play a grizzled version of Batman should it come around again:

“That was interesting to me. That was [Snyder’s] decision; that wasn’t my decision. It would have been the older, the more raspy, for lack of a better word…Honestly, that would have been a fun deal. And maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.”

The actor also recently spoke to Collider and confirmed his return for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” which begins shooting this summer, and that he is already getting into fighting fit form:

“I am a part of Dune Part Two, to the ridiculous extent of when somebody mentioned to me that it wasn’t on IMDb, I actually went out of my way to call Liz (his publicist) and say, ‘Can you please put that on IMDb?’ Because it’s a proud moment for me, man.

Javier [Bardem] and I had a similar thing that we both admitted to each other at the Oscars, because we both have a little bit of paunch right now. And we talked to Denis. We hadn’t read anything, and we talked to Denis the week before. He was like, ‘You guys are fighting the whole time. And you’ve been in the desert with the Fremen and all that.’

And we f–king panicked. We looked down and saw this little friend that we’ve been holding on our abdomen. So we were both on full diet mode at the Oscars, even though you absolutely couldn’t tell. We were already in diet mode, in panic diet mode.”

Brolin can currently be seen in “Outer Range” which wraps its run on May 6th. He most recently shot the comedy “Brothers” alongside Peter Dinklage, Glenn Close and Brendan Fraser.

“Dune: Part Two” is set to be released in cinemas October 20th 2023.
