Susan Sarandon To Play Blue Beetle Villain

Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon has closed a deal to play the villain Victoria Kord in the DC Comics-based feature film “Blue Beetle” at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Sarandon replaces Sharon Stone who was previously in talks for the role which is a new character created for the film. In addition, Raoul Max Trujillo (“Mayans M.C.”) has joined the cast in the role of Carapax the Indestructible Man.

Xolo Mariduena (“Cobra Kai”) stars as Jaime Reyes, a working-class El Paso teenager devoted to his family and with no connections to superheroes who finds a mysterious scarab half-buried in a disused lot.

The scarab comes alive and grafts itself to the base of Jaime’s spine and provided him with a suit of extraterrestrial armor that can be modified to enhance his speed and strength, as well as to create weapons, wings and shields.

Sarandon joins a cast which includes George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Belissa Escobedo, Bruna Marquezine and Harvey Guillen.

Angel Manuel Soto (“Charm City Kings”) directs from a script by Mexican writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Miss Bala”). The film will be released theatrically on August 18th 2023.
