Takashi Doscher (“Only,” “Still,” “A Fighting Chance”) has been hired to write the screenplay for the film adaptation of the celebrated samurai action/adventure video game “Ghost of Tsushima” at Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.
The story unfolds on the island of Tsushima off the coast of Japan during the first Mongol invasion in 1274. It follows protagonist Jin Sakai, one of the last remaining samurai warriors, who becomes a stealthy guerrilla fighter in order to ward off the brutal enemies – earning the nickname ‘The Ghost’.
“Infamous” game developer Sucker Punch released the title to high acclaim from critics and fans and was a major contender on many ‘Game of the Year’ lists along with being up for seven Game Awards nominations including Game of the Year.
It remains the PS4’s fastest-selling first-party original IP debut, with more than 2.4 million units sold worldwide in its first three days and over 8 million sold to date.
“John Wick” filmmaker Chad Stahelski is attached to direct the feature and produce alongside Alex Young and Jason Spitz. It will mark the second feature film to hail from PlayStation Productions following this year’s “Uncharted”.
Two PlayStation Productions TV series are also in the works – “The Last of Us” for HBO which will wrap filming shortly, and a “Twisted Metal” series for Peacock which hails from the writers of “Deadpool” and stars Anthony Mackie. Mackie confirmed that begins shooting in a few weeks.
