“PEN15” co-creator and star Maya Erskine is set to take the female lead role opposite Donald Glover in the upcoming “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” TV series for Amazon Prime.
Erskine will take over the role from “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge who had originally been set to re-team with her “Solo” co-star Glover on the project.
Waller-Bridge departed the project last year due to creative differences and Erskine’s hiring was revealed this week by Glover in a feature piece for Interview Magazine.
The series is based on Doug Liman’s 2005 feature of the same name starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. In that film, the pair played a married couple that discovers each is leading a double life as an assassin after they’re contracted to take each other out.
Glover says he is currently writing the finale for the series. Erskine will soon be seen in the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series for the Disney+ service.
