“Chopper” and “The Assassination of Jesse James” director Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe biopic “Blonde” has indeed scored an NC-17 rating as the director previously indicated it would.
The Film Ratings website of the MPA has confirmed “Blonde” has scored an official NC-17 rating for “some sexual content”. How graphic the film is isn’t clear, but Dominik told Screen Daily earlier this year: “If I look at an episode of [HBO show] Euphoria, it’s far more graphic than anything going on in Blonde.”
As the film is a hybrid Netflix and theatrical release, it’s not clear if the rating will make any difference in regards to the film’s potential audience. Ana de Armas stars in this adaptation of the 2000 Joyce Carol Oates book which is targeting a release on Netflix later this year.
