An official trailer has been released for the animated drama “Charlotte” which hails from directors Eric Warin and Tahir Rana, and stars the voice of Keira Knightley in the lead role.
The true story tale follows Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter who comes of age in Berlin on the eve of the Second World War.
With dreams of becoming an artist and anti-Semitic policies inspiring violent mobs, she leaves Berlin for the safety of the South of France where she begins to paint again and finds new love.
Soon her work is interrupted, this time by a family tragedy that reveals an even darker secret. Believing that only the extraordinary will save her, she embarks on the monumental adventure of painting her life story.
The film premiered at TIFF last Fall and comes from Good Deed Entertainment (“Loving Vincent”). Brenda Blethyn, Jim Broadbent, and Sophie Okonedo, Mark Strong, Sam Claflin, Eddie Marsan, and the late Helen McCrory also lend their voices.
“Charlotte” will arrive in select U.S. theaters on April 22nd.
