It has taken a long time but Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated remake of the iconic musical “West Side Story” has finally set a streaming launch date.
The film will debut on Disney+ in the U.S. and most international markets on March 2nd 2022. It will also hit Taiwan and Japan a bit later on March 9th and 30th respectively.
That sees the film hitting VOD services approximately three months after its theatrical launch.
Surprisingly, Disney has opted not to offer the film as a PVOD release around the 45-day mark – forgoing that potential income stream despite the film’s theatrical run has already dwindled.
As a result, it is one of the three Best Picture Oscar nominees not currently available on a streaming platform of some kind – the other two being “Licorice Pizza” which is still performing well, and “Drive My Car” which has MUBI has just acquired SVOD rights for in many territories.
