Nearly a year ago came word that “John Wick” helmer Chad Stahelski was set to direct a film version of the award-winning 2020 PlayStation video game “Ghost of Tsushima”.
Appearing at the premiere of “The Matrix: Resurrections” this week, Stahelski spoke briefly with IGN to offer an update on their approach.
It seems, unlike director Ruben Fleischer’s comments about his “Uncharted” film adaptation this week, Stahelski very much believes in staying loyal to the material and hopes the film won’t follow the trend of video game adaptations disappointing fans:
“We just want to do it right. You know how video game adaptions can go. So we’re taking our time and doing it right. We’re working very closely with the game developers to make sure we stick to what’s great about it.”
The game follows Jin Sakai, a Samurai warrior and the last surviving member of his clan, who must set aside his traditions and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan.
Stahelski also confirmed they are still working on the script but fans of the game: “would be very happy with what we’re working on.”
No release date or cast has been announced as yet.
