Box Office Eternals Hold Off Clifford
Paramount Pictures & Marvel

“Marvel’s Eternals” retained the box-office crown at the U.S. box-office this weekend, pulling in a further $27.5 million and hitting $118 million on the domestic front. It fell 61% from its debut, comparatively “Shang Chi” fell 52% and “Black Widow” fell 67%.

Internationally “Eternals” fared better with a further $48 million added – a softer drop of 49%. After two weekends of release, the film’s global tally sits at $281.4 million.

Coming in second was the family film “Clifford the Big Red Dog” which overcame weak critical reviews, and a simultaneous release on the Paramount+ service, to snag $16.4 million for the weekend and $22 million since opening on Wednesday.

“Dune” came in third with $5.5 million and stands at $93 million in the United States and $351 million globally. With international pulling in a further $6.8 million this weekend, the movie is now looking to close out its run at around the $400 million global mark.

“No Time To Die” was fourth with $4.6 million and, following seven weekends of offshore release and a recent bumper opening in Australia this weekend, crossed $700 million globally and with over $558 million of that overseas. That makes the film the biggest overseas grosser of not just 2021 but over the entire pandemic era – overtaking “F9: The Fast Saga”.

Marvel and Sony’s “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” also hit a milestone, becoming only the second film to pass the $200 million mark at the U.S. domestic box-office this year (the other being Marvel and Disney’s “Shang-Chi”) as was in fifth place this weekend with a further $4 million.

On the limited release front, Kenneth Branagh’s acclaimed black-and-white autobiographical drama “Belfast” managed to hit seventh place with $1.8 million from 580 domestic theaters.
