Across Reddit boards and social media, much of the film conversation of the past day has swirled around supposedly leaked images from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
Two shots emerged and appear to show off three former screen characters from Marvel works appearing in the movie and yes, it’s the three that have most been rumoured and speculated about – namely Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Charlie Cox.
Now, a new quote has appeared in Total Film (via Games Radar) from actor Tom Holland with that quote seeing him asked about the rumors that Maguire and Garfield would reprise their interpretations of Peter Parker in the movie.
We do know past villains like Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin are coming back, and Marvel isn’t hiding that, but so far they’re staying quiet on the multiple Spider-Man talk, as is Maguire himself.
Garfield has repeatedly denied involvement in the film, and recently talked with The Guardian about the rough awakening he had making his two films. Now the infamously spoiler-prone Holland has seemingly denied it too… but in the process made a clarification that has only further fueled the rumors. He says:
“Everyone puts their trousers on in the same way in the morning. It was interesting having those guys come in because they have certain ownership over Spider-Man in their own way, and… I’m talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys.
To see Alfred come in, and have to adapt and change to the way that the films are made, but also change director, and also [the fact that] I’m now Spider-Man. It was really interesting to see these actors adapt and change what they were doing to fit the modern era.
People don’t believe me when I say that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back. But people are going to have to believe me at some point. It means a lot to me. The first time you see Doc and the rest of the characters that come back, it’s so exciting – and it’s such a huge moment in cinematic history. It’s three generations coming together.”
Will any of these guys make it into the movie? We’ll see when “Spider-Man: No Way Home” opens on December 17th.
