Sunrise and Legendary Pictures have premiered the first concept art for the live-action “Gundam” film which hails from “Kong: Skull Island” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
The original “Mobile Suit Gundam” series began in 1979 and is set in the Universal Century, an era in which people have emigrated to space colonies because of a growing population on Earth.
Those living in the colonies seek their autonomy and launch a war of independence with battles fought by piloting robots known as mobile suits. The series is a cultural icon in Japan and rakes in multiple billions of dollars every year in animated films, video games, plastic models, toys, and books.
Vogt-Roberts produces and direct the Brian K. Vaughan-penned film which will be exclusive to Netflix. No release date was announced, but art was revealed as a part of the Netflix Festival Japan 2021 event.
