One of the interesting elements of David Gordon Green’s “Halloween Kills” is its quite solid recreation of Halloween night in Haddonfield in 1978.

The 2018 “Halloween” revival ignores the prior sequels thus ends up describing events that took place after the ending of the 1978 movie with Michael Myers’ capture by the police.

‘Kills’ shows that capture and in the process is able to revive a familiar face – the late Donald Pleasance’s Dr. Loomis who is seen a few times and has lines. Some have thought this was a “Rogue One” style CG visual effects job, but it turns out it’s just a case of good make-up.

Tom Jones, Jr., the film’s art director, got decked out as Loomis thanks to an 11-piece make-up job from Christopher Nelson with the latter having posted some behind-the-scenes pics on Instagram of the incredible work.

Loomis’ voice meanwhile was provided by Colin Mahan who also provided the voice for Loomis in the 2018 film. As the character only appears on screen for seconds at a time (and in suburban night scenes) it results in a fairly convincing illusion.

“Halloween Kills” is now out in cinemas and on Peacock.
