In a new posting on Instagram, Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed he has begun his work filming Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” series.

Jackson played the role of Nick Fury in all three of Marvel’s 2019 feature releases with his last onscreen appearance being the post-credits scene in 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far from Home”.

The actor did reprise the character in voice only for the recent animated “What If” series, but this is expected to mark his true return to the role after a three year hiatus and the thirteenth time overall that he’ll be playing the former S.H.I.E.L.D director.

The six-episode “Secret Invasion” series sees fury teaming up with the Skrulls pseudo-leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) in a loose adaptation of the comics storyline of the same name. Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Emmy nominee Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott and Christopher McDonald co-star.

The series, which began production early last month, is expected to debut on the Disney+ service sometime in 2022.
