Five years after NBC passed on a potential sequel, IMDb TV is developing a college-set reboot of classic 1999 teen feature “Cruel Intentions”.
Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman, the writers of Amazon’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series update, are penning this new take with Neal Moritz attached to produce.
Like the original, this revolves around two ruthless step siblings who will do anything to stay on top – this time though it’s set within the sorority hierarchy at an elite Washington, D.C. college.
After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do whatever’s necessary to preserve their power and reputations – even seduce the daughter of the vice president of the United States.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Selma Blair, Joshua Jackson and Reese Witherspoon starred in the original hit film which has no links to this version beyond Moritz’s involvement, the title and elements of the basic setup.
That’s quite different from the NBC take back in 2015 which was to be a direct sequel following the son of Phillippe’s character with Gellar set to reprise her iconic role of Kathryn Merteuil.
