FX has revealed the full cast for its new limited series adaptation of James Clavell’s famed feudal Japan-set best-selling novel “Shogun”.

Justin Marks and his wife Rachel Kondo pen the story which charts the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai.

Cosmo Jarvis (“Lady Macbeth”) plays John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him.

Hiroyuki Sanada (“Mortal Kombat”) plays Lord Yoshi Toranaga, a brilliant strategist and powerful daimyo who is nevertheless isolated and outnumbered by his enemies in Osaka Castle.

Anna Sawai (“F9: The Fast Saga”) plays Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills and dishonourable family ties who must prove her value and allegiance.

Also onboard are Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido, Tokuma Nishioka, Takehiro Hira, Ako, Shinnosuke Abe, Yasunari Takeshima, Hiroto Kanai, Toshi Toda, Hiro Kanagawa, Néstor Carbonell, Yuki Kura, Tommy Bastow, Moeka Hoshi, Yoriko Doguchi and Yuka Kouri.

The property was previously adapted into the celebrated 1980 miniseries with Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune and Yoko Shimada in the three key roles. The new take tells the story from both a Western and Japanese perspective.

Production on the show has begun in Vancouver. FX has yet to set a premiere window.
