The CW has acquired “Professionals,” Viaplay’s loose series remake of Christian Slater-fronted action movie “Soldiers of Fortune”. Tom Welling, Brendan Fraser, Elena Anaya, Ken Duken and Saïd Taghmaoui star.
Welling plays a top-tier security operative. When a next-gen medical satellite explodes on launch, he is hired by the rocket’s billionaire futurist designer (Brendan Fraser) to investigate. They uncover a lethal conspiracy out to dismantle the designer’s tech empire. [Source: Deadline]
Anansi Boys
Malachi Kirby (“Small Axe”) has been cast in the roles of both Charlie Nancy and his brother Spider in the series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s six-episode series “Anansi Boys” at Amazon. Filming begins in Scotland later this year.
The series follows Charlie, a young man who discovers his late father (Delroy Lindo) was Anansi: trickster god of stories. And he learns that he has a brother who enters his life determined to make it more interesting and dangerous. [Source: Variety]
Grendel
Netflix has handed out a series order for an adaptation of Matt Wagner’s Dark Horse Comics series “Grendel”. Andrew Dabb (“Supernatural”) serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer on the eight-episode series.
The story follows Hunter Rose (Abubakr Ali), a fencer, writer and assassin who fights organized crime in New York and ultimately he takes over the crime scene himself. [Source: Variety]
