Current “Star Trek” TV boss Alex Kurtzman has revealed that the Paramount+ streaming service is developing another “Trek” series, this one centered on the Starfleet Academy.

Speaking with The New York Times, Kurtzman says the show will be “built around the Starfleet Academy, which will be aimed at a younger audience.” It’s not clear if it will be a live-action or animated series.

It joins multiple series on the air that run a range of genres from adult animated comedy (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”), kids animation (“Star Trek: Prodigy”), to more adult action/dramas (“Star Trek: Discovery,” “Star Trek: Picard”) and more classic formula Trek (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”).

The more spy thriller style “Star Trek: Section 31” is also on the way and Kurtzman says: “I think we’re just getting started. There’s just so much more to be had.” He also says he wants to go to far stranger places:

“[I want] to get much weirder with the franchise… pushing the boundaries much further than I think most people would want. I think we might get there. Marvel has actually proven that you can. But you have to build a certain foundation in order to get there and we’re still building our foundation”

The second season of “Star Trek: Lower Decks” hits next Friday.
