Netflix has reportedly opted to push back the premiere of the fifth and final season of “The Witcher” to 2027 as opposed to a previously anticipated late 2026 release, according to What’s On Netflix.
An exact premiere date hasn’t been announced, but the outlet is confident the release window is considerably later than the expected late 2026 launch, which showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich previously indicated.
Netflix hasn’t shared any official word or reasoning for the reported delay. The fifth season wrapped production in September last year, a month ahead of the fourth season’s airing.
Filming on the fifth season partly took place in Cape Town, South Africa before heading back to the UK for the main leg of the shoot.
The new run will mark the second turn of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, the Australian taking over the role after Henry Cavill exited the show following the end of the third season.
Also expected back are Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), Freya Allan (Princess Cirilla of Cintra), Joey Batey (Jaskier), and Laurence Fishburne (Emiel Regis).
The fifth season is expected to adapt “The Lady of the Lake ,” the fifth and final novel of Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s saga.
