Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo is set to star in a remake of the 1979 musical drama “The Rose” which starred Bette Midler.
The original 20th Century Fox feature followed a self-destructive female rock star who struggles to deal with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of those around her.
The new “The rose’ will be a contemporary take on the high price of fame. Searchlight Pictures is backing the project which does not yet have a writer or director attached.
Erivo and Solome Williams will produce and it comes off the “Widows” and “Bad Times at the El Royale” star’s work in National Geographic’s “Genius: Aretha” mini-series.
