Netflix’s Melissa McCarthy-led comedy series “God’s Favorite Idiot” has halted production in Australia with the streamer changing up its filming plans.
The show involves a mid-level tech support employee who finds love with a co-worker at the same time that he becomes the unwitting messenger of God.
Originally slated to shoot a sixteen-episode run until November, production has now stopped with eight episodes completed. The streamer has now reportedly decided to break up the shoot into two batches of eight episodes.
No date or location has been given for the possible production of the second batch however. The change comes as Australia is currently flooded with high-profile international feature films and TV productions at the moment thanks to near-zero COVID-19 levels despite a lack of vaccine uptake.
It has also been reported that the cast were paid for a full sixteen weeks, but the local crew were paid only for work already completed. McCarthy and Ben Falcone executive produce the series which will premiere next year.
