BritBox has announced that it is developing a second season of the UK drama series “The Beast Must Die” from New Regency Television and Scott Free.
Cush Jumbo (“The Good Fight”) plays a grieving mother who infiltrates the life of the man she believes killed her son. Jared Harris, Nathaniel Parker, Geraldine James and Maeve Dermody co-star in the five-part series.
The first season is based on the 1938 novel by Daniel Day-Lewis’ father Cecil under his nom de plume Nicholas Blake. The show reportedly broke viewing records for the service since the first two episodes premiered last week, but specific numbers haven’t been released.
The new season will be an original story told by the show’s writer Gaby Chiappe (“Vera”) and has been titled “A Sword in my Bones”. It will shift the focus to Detective Nigel Strangeways character with Billy Howle (“The Serpent”) to reprise his role. Otherwise, it will boast a new cast of characters and a new setting.
“The Beast Must Die” has been picked up for release in the U.S. by AMC later this year.
