“Mulan” director Niki Caro is set to helm a female-driven big wave surfing drama for Netflix.
The currently untitled project is based on the New York Times magazine article by Daniel Duane. Becky Johnston penned the adapted screenplay.
The piece looks at Bianca Valenti, Andrea Moller, Paige Alms and Keala Kennelly – four women who form a powerful bond as they surf in the world’s most dangerous waters and fight for the right to compete in an aggressively male sport.
The project will be produced by Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah production company.
