Netflix and Mattel Television have premiered the first photos from “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” the highly-anticipated new animated series that serves as a direct sequel to the classic 1980s “He-Man” cartoon.
As a result, Powerhouse Animation Studios (“Castlevania”) delivers animation with character design from the original remaining intact – though the quality of the depictions and animation style has picked up, and the themes it will tackle will be more adult.
Kevin Smith serves as showrunner and directs the expansive series which will include characters that only appeared in Mattel toys and comics. Smith says they’re not only playing with the original mythology and characters, but they’re also “revisiting and digging deeper into some of the unresolved storylines”.
“Masters of the Universe: Revelation” stars Chris Wood as Prince Adam/He-Man alongside Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, Steven Root as Battle Cat and Griffin Newman as Oko.
Bear McCreary (“The Walking Dead,” “Battlestar Galactica”) will compose the score. The series will launch with ‘Part 1’ consisting of five episodes. That run kicks off July 23rd.
The announcement is simultaneous with confirmation that Mattel will unveil a brand-new Masterverse toy line.
