Filmmaker Adam McKay has revealed that the planned HBO TV series adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s Best Picture winner “Parasite” is NOT a remake.
“Parasite” arrived to near-universal acclaim which made the announcement of such a series confusing. Then it was revealed Bong was involved alongside McKay and they intended to use bunch of ideas that Bong wasn’t able to include in the film.
Appearing on an episode of Happy Sad Confused podcast this week, McKay says: “It’s an original series. It’s in the same universe as the feature, but it’s an original story that lives in that same world.”
As for the project’s status, he says they’ve just staffed up a writers’ room and he outlined the series with Bong during the quarantine with him overseeing.
McKay also produces the multi-award-winning HBO series “Succession”.
