HBO’s untitled Showtime project, an Adam McKay-produced drama series chronicling the L.A. Lakers’ 1980s dynasty led by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, has set its cast.
The series will delve into the professional and personal lives of the team and its management as they won five NBA championships over the decade and defined an era, both on and off the court.
The cast includes Jason Clarke as the team’s General Manager Jerry West, John C. Reilly as Lakers owner Jerry Buss, Adrien Brody as coach Pat Riley, Quincy Isaiah as Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, DeVaughn Nixon as Norm Nixon, Molly Gordon as Linda Zafrani, Rob Morgan as Earvin Johnson Sr., Spencer Garrett as Chick Hearn, Kirk Bovill as Donald Sterling, and Delante Desouza as Michael Cooper.
McKay, Kevin Messick, writer Max Borenstein, Jim Hecht, Jason Shuman and Scott Stephens are all executive producing.
