Bring Them Down
“Normal People” breakout Paul Mescal will join “The Souvenir” and “Mank” star Tom Burke in the lead Irish thriller “Bring Them Down”. That deals with a shepherd who is drawn into violent conflict with a neighbouring farm when his sheep are massacred by unknown men. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
Oscar winner Kathy Bates has joined the cast of Kelly Fremon Craig’s adaptation of Judy Blume’s novel “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” at Lionsgate. She will play the key role of Margaret’s grandmother Sylvia alongside Abby Ryder Fortson (“Ant-Man”) as Margaret and Rachel McAdams as Margaret’s mother Barbara. The film begins production in April. Hypnotic
Kate Siegel (“Hush”), Jason O’Mara (“The Man in the High Castle”) and Dule Hill (“Psych”) have been set to star in Netflix’s horror/thriller “Hypnotic”. Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote (“The Open House”) directs from a script co-written with Richard D’Ovidio (“The Call”).
The story follows a young woman seeking self-improvement, who enlists the help of a renowned hypnotist. But after a handful of intense sessions, she soon discovers unexpected and deadly consequences. [Source: Variety]
M.I.A.
Frank Grillo is set to star in Kevin Carraway’s new action-thriller “M.I.A.” at Hannibal Media. Grillo will play Jax, a man who wakes up in a precarious situation with no memory, no time to spare and everyone in the criminal world out to kill him.
He is forced to team up with a streetwise criminal to find out who he is and realizes he might not like the answers he uncovers. Scott Windhauser (“The Hurricane Heist”) penned the project and production is slated to begin in the second quarter of this year. [Source: Deadline]
Lightyears
Sissy Spacek and Ed O’Neill have scored the lead roles in the Amazon series “Lightyears”. Daniel C. Connolly is showrunning and executive producing with filming to begin later this year with Philip Martin directing.
The pair play a couple who years ago discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. When an enigmatic young man enters their lives, the chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined. [Source: Vulture]
