Santa Monica Studio has announced that 2018’s “God of War” reboot is finally getting a true PS5 patch which will be released tomorrow (February 2nd).
The patch will allow the game to run at 4K and at 60 frames per second with a new default setting replacing the current video graphics mode option. This will “offer the best of both performance and resolution to our PlayStation 5 players”.
There will also be an ‘Original Performance Experience’ that can be selected at any time and will be akin to the PlayStation 4’s ‘Favor Resolution’ video graphics mode (ie. 4K Checkerboard Resolution/30fps).
The update brings the title into line with major Sony first-party titles like “Ghost of Tsushima” and “Days Gone” which were patched prior to release to run at 4k/60fps on the PS5, as opposed to “Marvel’s Spider-Man” which scored a proper remake with ray tracing, new textures, new lighting and more added.
A handful of key first-party PS4 titles remain stuck at 30fps and/or lower resolutions – most notably “The Last of Part II,” the various “Uncharted” games and “Bloodborne”.
