Bond May Be Altered To Fix Dated Tech

A new report in British tabloid The Sun indicates that some re-editing, post-production tweaks, maybe even a brief bit of additional filming on the upcoming James Bond film “No Time To Die” may be required soon.

These changes however won’t have anything to do with altering the plot or characters. Rather it’s for a very specific technical reason – to solve the problem of the film’s gadgets being outdated.

Thanks to the numerous delays, there will be a gap now of around two years between filming and the film’s release should it stick to its Fall 2021 plan. In tech terms however, two years can be a long time – especially for a film series noted for its product placement and with companies contributing large portions of the film’s $200+ million budget to show off their latest tech within the film.

The report talks to a source that indicates the various sponsors are concerned:

“Everyone knows that James Bond always carries the latest kit with him. The problem is that some of those things were the very latest models back when they started filming. But by the time the movie comes out now, it will look like Daniel Craig and all of the other cast members are carrying something that has been out for ages.

That isn’t really the point of these deals. The big tech firms want the stars to have all the new up-and-coming products to help promote them and sell them to fans. It means some of the scenes are going to have to be very carefully edited and looked at to bring things up to date.”

Product placement has been a big part of the franchise for decades, though with this being the first Universal and MGM Bond feature there won’t be as much visible Sony tech this time around.

Major sponsors this time around include Nokia, Adidas, Omega and Bollinger.
