The Batman villain Black Mask will serve as a major villain in the second season of The CW’s “Batwoman” series.
The new run sees the False Face Society distributing a perilous new drug known as Snakebite across Gotham.
Showrunner Caroline Dries tells EW that an island ruler named Safiyah (Shivaani Ghai), who first appeared in the show’s first season, will serve as the first ‘big bad’. Then “with the False Face Society, we will see the leader of this gang as Black Mask later on in the season”.
In the comics, the character is the brutally sadistic crime boss Roman Sionis who wears a black skull mask carved from the ebony coffin of his dead wealthy father – a mask permanently burned onto his face following an act of arson.
Ewan McGregor played the character recently in Cathy Yan’s “Birds of Prey” film alongside Chris Messina as Mr. Zsasz. Intriguingly Alex Morf will be playing Zsasz in the new season of “Batwoman”.
The character arrives as Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder takes over the Batmantle from Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane following the latter character’s disappearance.
