Teaser: Emmy Rossum Is “Angelyne”

Anyone who knows Los Angeles even semi-well knows of Angelyne. The blond bombshell with her iconic pink outerwear and Corvette is one of the first examples of a celebrity famous just for being famous.

As part of NBC Universal’s new streaming service Peacock, the company has released the first teaser trailer for the limited series “Angelyne”.

The four-episode series sees former “Shameless” star Emmy Rossum who, with the help of some prosthetics and a lot of strategic costuming, hair and make-up, is nearly unrecognisable in the role.

The series is based on an infamously unauthorised article a few years ago in the trade paper The Hollywood Reporter went into Angelyne’s early days. As we can see from the clip, it is primarily set in the early-mid 1980s and goes into how Angelyne rocketed to fame renting out billboards across the city advertising only herself.

Born Ronia Tamar Goldberg in 1950, Angelyne’s billboards led to her being interviewed by local media before receiving numerous offers for roles in film along with small screen appearances. She has since become famous for her appearance in everything from the “Moonlighting” opening credits, to brief spoofs in films like “2012” and shows like “The Simpsons” and “BoJack Horseman”.

Lucy Tcherniak directs the series’s entire run with Martin Campbell, Jefferson Hall, Lukas Gage, Charlie Rowe and Kerry Norton starring. No official premiere date for the mini-series has yet been announced though it’s expected to air sometime in 2021.
