CW Plans Jane Austen Anthology Series

The CW has begun development of “Modern Austen,” a one-hour anthology series inspired by the works of Jane Austen for Warner Bros. Television.

The series reimagines Austen’s six novels as modern stories with each season based on a different novel like “Emma,” “Sense and Sensibility” and “Mansfield Park”. The show kicks off with “Pride and Prejudice” unfolding in contemporary San Francisco.

Eleanor Burgess, who wrote HBO’s recent “Perry Mason” reboot, will serve as writer and executive producer. Stephanie Allain and Gabrielle Ebron will executive produce.
