Netflix’s acquisition of “Cobra Kai” has paid off it seems. Despite having been a smash hit on YouTube for some time, Netflix’s release of the first two seasons in early September saw a massive resurgence in interest as around 50 million member accounts chose to watch at least several minutes of the series over its first four weeks of release.
Netflix announced the numbers on Tuesday as part of its third quarter earnings report, confirming also that the Ryan Murphy-produced “Ratched” clocked 48 million views over its first 28 days of release. Coming in behind the two were the new seasons of “The Umbrella Academy” (43M) and “Lucifer” (38M).
Feature films also did well for the service with “The Old Guard” (78M) “Enola Holmes” (76M), “Project Power” (75M) and “The Kissing Booth 2” (66M) all performing very well. The company also had its two most watched original feature documentaries to date with “American Murder: The Family Next Door” (52M) and “The Social Dilemma” (38M).
The numbers come as the service announced it will offer a free trial of its full service to everyone in a single country at a time for one weekend, starting in India and going to other global territories.
