Oscar winner Kate Winslet will star in “Fake!,” the new film from “The Report” writer/director Scott Z. Burns, which has been setup at MGM. Jennifer Todd produces alongside Burns and Winslet.
The film is based on the book by Jen McAdam and Douglas Thompson, based on the true-life story of McAdam and her involvement with the OneCoin Ponzi scheme. OneCoin was promoted as a cryptocurrency and the scheme rake in $4 billion worldwide. Most of OneCoin’s leaders have now disappeared or been arrested, thought mastermind Ruja Ignatova is still at large.
McAdam was a victim of OneCoin’s Ponzi scheme and she founded a support group for those affected. She and her friends and family invested and lost close to $300,000. Winslet can next be seen starring in Francis Lee’s “Ammonite” which Neon releases next month.
