It’s October and with Halloween just a few weeks away, the various streaming services are getting spooky. First, the Criterion Channel has announced a bunch of 1970s horror films which will be made available for the month.
The list includes some iconic classics including Tobe Hooper’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” Bob Clark’s “Black Christmas,” Robin Hardy’s “The Wicker Man,” Wes Craven’s “The Hills Have Eyes,” Nicolas Roeg’s “Don’t Look Now,” Philip Kaufman’s “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” Colin Eggleston’s “Long Weekend,” Michael Crichton’s “Coma,” Roman Polanski’s “The Tenant,” George A. Romero’s “The Crazies” and “Season of the Witch,” Brian De Palma’s “Sisters,” Larry Cohen’s “It’s Alive” and David Cronenberg’s “Rabid,” “The Brood” and “Shivers”.
There’s plenty more though such as “Trog,” “The Vampire Lovers,” “Daughters of Darkness,” “Let’s Scare Jessica to Death,” “The Nightcomers,” “Dracula A.D. 1972,” “Images,” “Death Line,” “Ganja & Hess,” “Theater of Blood,” “Deathdream,” “The Witch Who Came from the Sea,” and “The Driller Killer”.
Next up, HBO Max has launched the ‘Halloween is Here’ spotlight page bringing together spooky, scary, chilling and thrilling films and series. Along with major films like “The Invisible Man,” “Us,” “It: Chapter 2,” and “Doctor Sleep” there’s also creepy classics like “Alien,” “An American Werewolf in London,” “Night of the Living Dead,” “Eraserhead,” “Se7en,” “The Frighteners,” “Eyes Without a Face” and “Scanners,” along with a collection of Halloween-themed episodes from various TV series
Nickelodeon has announced spooktacular premieres of live-action, animation, and preschool series from Friday, October 2nd. New episodes of hit series include “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “The Loud House,” “The Casagrandes,” “Blue’s Clues & You,” and “It’s Pony.” Fans can head to NickJr.com and the Nick and Nick Jr. app to view Halloween-themed episodes and short-form content.
Finally, Disney+ is inviting fans and families to celebrate its first ever Disney+ Hallowstream with a collection of some of popular Halloween movies, specials, and episodes. Films will include “Hocus Pocus,” “Frankenweenie,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad,” “Mr. Boogedy”. TV includes thirty episodes of the “Treehouse of Horror” event from “The Simpsons” along with Halloween-themed episodes of various Disney series.
