Toby Haynes is set to replace Tony Gilroy as director of the first three episodes of the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” spinoff series at Disney+ centered around the earlier days of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor character.
The New York-based Gilroy has dropped off as director due to COVID-19-related travel reasons as filming will take place in the UK. Haynes already was high on the list of directors for future episodes and as he is UK based, all parties thought this would make the most sense.
Alan Tudyk, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller also star in the ‘spy thriller’ series focusing on Rebel agent Andor.
Haynes has a long history on UK TV with well regarded work helming episodes of “Doctor Who,” “Sherlock,” “Being Human,” “Wallander,” “The Musketeers,” the entire “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell” mini-series, the award-winning “U.S.S. Callister” episode of “Black Mirror” and the ucpoming U.S. remake of “Utopia”.
Gilroy will stay very much involved with the series as executive producer, writer and showrunner. Pre-production is underway will plans to start shooting next month.
